AGROSHIELD Project Presented at the CLIMAAX Workshop in Barcelona
The two-day event brought together 69 regions and municipalities from 23 European countries, serving as a platform to share methodologies and practical solutions developed in climate risk assessment. The first day featured technical sessions and Q&A discussions focused on tools and frameworks developed under CLIMAAX, while the second day highlighted 10 selected project success stories.
MMU took part as one of the Türkiye-based beneficiaries of the second open call, showcasing the AGROSHIELD Project, which addresses climate resilience through the lens of agricultural drought. The project introduced its roadmap for conducting local-scale drought risk assessments and developing place-based adaptation plans across four districts in the Marmara Region.
During the workshop, MMU project team connected with both the core team of CLIMAAX consortium and other participating delegations from Turkey. The methods followed within the scope of AGROSHIELD were shared and common learning areas with similar projects were discussed.
About the Project
AGROSHIELD aims to enhance local climate resilience in the Marmara Region by addressing agricultural drought risks. Implemented in İznik, Gemlik, Karamürsel, and Gönen, the project follows a three-phase structure aligned with the CLIMAAX Climate Risk Assessment Framework:
- Baseline assessment with the implementation of the CLIMAAX Common Methodology Framework
- Refinement and improvement of the risk assessment
- Co-creation of Community Adaptation Action Plans (CAAPs) with local stakeholders
