Marmara Municipalities Union Visited the University of West Attica (UNIWA) Within the Scope of the NUMA Project

Marmara Municipalities Union (MMU) visited the University of West Attica (UNIWA), the lead partner from Greece, in Athens on 17–21 November 2025 as part of the NUMA Project supported by EIT Urban Mobility. Representatives from EcoMuse Consulting and Ardem Project, the project partners from Türkiye, also took part in the program.

During the Athens visit, project partners had the opportunity to examine on-site the latest developments in sustainable urban mobility policies in Europe, Greece’s national strategy, and local implementation examples. The program included expert presentations addressing topics such as strengthening collaboration between universities, the public sector, and the private sector; integrating student perspectives into mobility plans; the relationship between energy transition and transport; micromobility applications; the impact of shared mobility systems on urban planning; and the role of the mobility hub concept in urban regeneration.

Field visits focused on micromobility solutions implemented particularly in historic and touristic areas, as well as pedestrian-oriented transportation arrangements in the city of Nafplio. It was observed that Greece is progressing in alignment with the SUMP approach in the field of sustainable transport, and there is strong potential for mutual knowledge exchange with municipalities in Türkiye.

The NUMA Project’s Athens program concluded successfully with the completion of all planned meetings and site visits. The visit strengthened international cooperation and provided valuable insights into project implementation processes from the Greek perspective.

About the NUMA Project

The NextGen Urban Mobility Academy (NUMA) project is a year-long initiative focused on urban mobility in Athens and Istanbul, carried out in partnership between West Attica University, Marmara Municipalities Union, Ardem Project, and EcoMuse Consulting.

The project is supported by EIT Urban Mobility, an initiative of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). EIT Urban Mobility aims to accelerate transformation in the field of mobility to make cities more livable.

NUMA seeks to strengthen long-term innovation capacity in cities by bringing together education, research, and business under the “knowledge triangle” approach. Key activities include developing training programs for municipal staff and university students, organizing stakeholder events, and promoting the participation of women in urban mobility.
