MACRO CLEAN - Research, Cleaning Methodologies, Economic Valorization and Pilot Application for Macroalgal Blooms

MACRO-CLEAN aims to tackle a significant challenge in the Black Sea: eutrophication and macroalgae blooms.

The Macro Clean Project, funded by the European Union, is a collaborative initiative aimed at tackling eutrophication and macroalgae blooms in the Black Sea region. Bringing together Sinop University (SNU), Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Waste Management Department (İSTAÇ), Batum State University (BSU), and Shumen University (ShU), the project adopts an interdisciplinary approach to mitigate these environmental challenges.

The project focuses on developing innovative methodologies and technologies for the collection and removal of macroalgae while assessing their potential for economic use. It also aims to raise awareness and foster collaboration among stakeholders to promote sustainable practices in the region.

Macro Clean unites experts from various fields, including marine biology, environmental management, and sustainable development, to address shared environmental challenges. The project not only contributes to the ecological health of the Black Sea but also supports economic innovation and community engagement.
