Istanbul Presented Projects to its Sister City, Barcelona
The delegation of Barcelona, consisting of Spain's Ambassador to Ankara Mr. Joan Clos, Deputy-Mayor of Barcelona Jordi William Carnes and prominent businessmen, met with 1st Vice-Chairman of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipal Assembly Mr. Ahmet Selamet. The meeting was held on 29 June 2009 in the Istanbul Metropolitan Planning Center.
The representatives of two sister cities met in order to discuss the cooperation opportunities between Barcelona and Istanbul. At the opening speech given before the presentations, Mr Ahmet Selamet emphasized that between the cities of Istanbul and Barcelona, which signed the sister city protocol in 1997, relationships should be strengthened and such working visits should continue.
Mr Jordi William Carnes, Deputy-Mayor of Barcelona, expressed its heartfelt belief that the cooperation between Istanbul and Barcelona will show improvement in all areas concerning local governance, especially in the field of economy. Mr Ibrahim Baz, head of Istanbul Metropolitan Planning Center; Mr. Raif Mermutlu, Deputy-Director General of Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration ISKI; relevant department directors of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and Mr Selamettin Ermiž, Director of Foreign Relations were present at the meeting. The guest delegation has been briefed on projects of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, such as the urban transformation strategies, Golden Horn Environment Protection Investments and other.
Following the meeting, the delegation from Barcelona visited the environment transformation projects in Golden Horn area.
