Park and Ride : ISPARK applies a scalpel to the traffic problem
ISPARK, the affiliate company of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality responsible for the management of the parking places of the city, that won the support of the public in Istanbul with its unique projects in the car park sector, launched its P+R ( Park and Ride ) project, which is a first in Istanbul, at the Haldun Alagaş Car Park.
ISPARK, The P+R ( Park and Ride ) project which is implemented in Europe with the aim of contributing to lessening the traffic, congregates drivers to various transfer centers and ferries them to the city center via public transport. The project will ease traffic at one of the most crowded streets of Istanbul, Alemdağ Avenue and its approach roads.
How does the project work?
Drivers arriving at the Haldun Alagaş Car Park can park their cars, fully insured for 5 hours free of charge. The shuttle buses at the car park take the drivers in the direction of Ümraniye via Alemdağ Avenue to the Municipality Building and on the return trip from Sütçü Avenue to the car park.
If the traffic locks up alternative route will be Küçüksu Avenue and its approach roads. In this manner the drivers avoid the centre of town traffic and have an easier time themselves and also lessen the traffic as well. Drivers can park free of charge at the Haldun Alagaş Car Park ,between the hours of 08:00-17:00, for the first 5 hours, after 17:00 there is a 3 YTL entry-exit fee.
Stating that they have launched a solution oriented project that will contribute to the lessening of traffic ISPARK General Manager Kadir Gurbetci, went on to say ‘We are using Ümraniye as the base for the pilot project area. We will implement this project, which presents a sustainable solution to the Istanbul traffic at other locations as well. We are continuing our innoivative work on projects that pioneer solutions for the traffic problem. We will be starting the construction of 3 underground car parks with a capacity of 1220 cars in the near future.
The aims of the project ;
To promote public transport,
To reduce the exhaust gas emissions that affect the global warming process (CO2 gases),
Freeing up the road system,
Less fuel consumption,
