Gaziantep: Third Place in Best Culinary Travel Book in the World
The recently published “Southeast Anatolia Guide” has been awarded as "The Third Best Culinary Travel Book in the World". 6.000 books from 107 countries participated in the competition organised by the Gourmand Awards Paris.
The guidebook has been produced within EU grant and with the contribution of Gaziantep Chamber of Commerce and realized in partnership with the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Southeastern Anatolia Project (GAP) Regional Development Administration. The whole project is part of the Cultural Heritage Program of 2006 and 2007. Mrs Filiz Hösükoğlu, Head of International Relations Department of Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality and writer on culinary and cultural issues, coordinated the realisation of the project.
Southeastern Anatolia is the neighbouring region with Syria. It has 9 provinces, with important culinary and local art treasures. For some 8000 years, the Tigris and Euphrates rivers have shared the lifestyle and culture of this region, a cradle of civilizations. The city of Gaziantep is the leading city of the region and a major cultural, economic and industrial centre.
