Union of Municipalities of Marmara (Turkey) organised on 4-6 June 2009 a training session on EU for municipalities in the framework of "Carlanetwork Group", supported by the Swedish Consulate General in Istanbul.

The program aiming at training "EU experts" in Turkish municipalities is carried out since 2007 by the Swedish 3L Project Management Company, with the financial support of Swedish government. The 3L Project Management representatives, Sören Bäckman (Sweden), Svend Moeller (Denmark) and Birgit Gericke (Germany) spoke on the capacity development, social inclusion and environment special interest issues during the training sessions. At these sessions, special interest groups shared their projects and ideas and future plans.

The purpose of Carlanetwork Group is to contribute to Turkey's EU integration process. Staff members of UMM, Union of Municipalities of South-East Anatolia, Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality, Municipalities of Yıldırım, Batman, Varto and İzmit take part in the network.
